Ash Wednesday

Due to COVID we will hold our Ash Wednesday service over Zoom. The service is scheduled for 8 pm and will take the form of an abbreviated liturgy with prayers, hymns, and a short reflection. (We will 'screenshare' the prepared Powerpoint containing the liturgy.)

As this is an extraordinary season we are inviting you to join us with appropriately prepared ash from your home. You may choose to prepare this ash from various materials that lend themselves to the purpose.

- Loamy soil slightly moistened by a few drops of olive oil.

- Ash from a stove adding a few drops of oil.

- The 'ashy' tip of a candle wick. (Be careful of residual heat of the candle if you choose to use this method.)

Whichever method you choose, it would be necessary to pay attention to the consistency and texture of the mix.

For those not comfortable using ash, another perfectly suitable option is the use of aroma oils.

The ash and oil may be applied to either the forehead or the topside of the hand, according to the preference of the person receiving it.

For those wishing for clearer guidance and instruction, the short and simple video below from the First Presbyterian Church in Dallas. ( DO NOTE, they advertise their service at 7 pm. OUR TIME IS 8 PM on Wednesday 17 February and the meeting will open at 7.50 pm.
